What is a bedside cot?

A bedside crib, also referred to as a bassinet or a co-sleeper is a crib for babies that is attached to your adult bed. This allows your newborn to sleep next to you in peace. This is a safe form of co-sleeping, which does not increase the risk of SIDS like bedsharing. It can also help you bond with your newborn baby.

This is particularly useful for mothers recovering from a c-section. Designed to help parents bond with their infants while they sleep together, without sharing a bed this co-sleeper has features that make bonding between parents and babies safe, easy and fun.

A smooth, steady rocking motion could be activated by pressing a button. This gentle rhythm can help soothe your baby into sleep without disrupting their natural sleep patterns. This is great for toddlers and older infants who are struggling to settle and can aid in digestion problems such as colic and reflux.

The crib can be locked into it once the rocking is done to stop it moving. It can also be secured on the bed's side with a strap and clip attachment. This makes the crib sturdy and secure and allows you to sleep peacefully, without having to worry that your child will slide off into the middle. The cocoon's rounded shape features softly cushioned sides and double mesh windows on both sides to allow plenty of airflow while protecting your baby.

The Tutti Bambini COZee air crib comes with a removable fabric and wipe-clean lining. This makes it easier to clean than other bedside cribs that can be messy to clean. It also has an upper bar that can be easily adjusted to accommodate nighttime feedings without the need to juggle zips.

Anna discovered that the CoZee was a safe and comfortable sleep space for her newborn. It was a pleasure to not move like other models so she didn't wake up at night while trying to soothe her child for feedings. She also liked that the side lowered down so she didn't need to reach out over her partner to lift the baby for night time feeds.

The Maxi-Cosi lora

The Iora is a bassinet for infants designed to help parents feel closer to their baby while they sleep. It adjusts up and down and slides through three positions to fit beside the parent's bed, or in the corner of the room so that the baby is always within arm's reach. The mesh siding allows air to flow through and allows you to see your baby easily. You can also store extra pajamas or supplies in the large storage basket beneath.

The Iora is a smaller bedside cot for bedside that folds flat. It also comes with a travel case so it can be carried anywhere. Our mom testers were able to move it from room to room and believed that it was a suitable size for a bedside cot, and not too big or too small. They also liked the large storage basket, that is ideal for storing spare bedding or nappies.

This is a great choice for parents who are looking to co-sleep but do not want to share their beds or whose partner may be prone to mobility issues, such as back problems or arthritis. Our mums who tested it were thrilled to be able to easily access their child in the Iora and that it came with an adjustable reflux incline that helped alleviate gas.

Our mothers love that it follows NICE guidelines. These are to place an infant in the Moses basket or crib on its own without toys, blankets or pillows. They also state that the mattress is firm and comfortable for the baby and easy to find sheets for. It's not as light as other cribs for bedside use however, so if you want something lighter and easier to move around, think about one of the other options on our list.
