How to Replace an replacement audi key cost uk G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

Located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 through the grey wire. The ECU uses this information to control the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

BMW-2020-New.pngThe sensor serves as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can trigger spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is not in line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of a chain stretch or a jumped chain link in the upper chain of timing. However the code will not be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It is a little tricky to test as there are various connector pins, and they all have different functions. The most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read around 1000 ohms when the sensor is operating at its maximum. Look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if there are issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at full speed I noticed a massive drop in power. It was like the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors weren't firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning, three were soaked in gasoline, and the 4th was dry. When I start the engine without sparks i put tissue on top of each injector hole, the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th stay shut. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I got 0ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start if the G28 is unplugged and it runs perfectly when it is plugged in but it still has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c even when i unplug it. Also i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.

I don't know what to do. I think I've all other possibilities out. But i am afraid i might have missed something. Let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate the spare in a salvage shop or a parts store. Testing them is easy - put your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's side). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines must know the position and speed of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of the fuel injector, etc. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If either of these goes wrong, you will receive codes on the diagnostic scanner which could cause engine shut down.

Some of the symptoms of a malfunctioning G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox and gears that shift faster than normal and/or misfiring when you're in gear. It is probable that your sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you encounter any of these signs. They're cheap and easy to find particularly when they're a Bosch unit like ours. Alternately, GM's version this component is an option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine sensor can cause a myriad of issues within your vehicle. It is a crucial part of your audi a3 key fob's transmission, as it sends information to the ECU about how fast or slow the audi car key cover's crankshaft is rotating. This sensor could cause the transmission to malfunction and other components in the car to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located near the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It sends signals via gray wire to ECU pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this signal to control fuel and boost, as well as timig. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by checking continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection to pin T6a/1 (trace [79]) and between T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should detect the resistance to be around 1000 ohms between these two points. This is a common feature across the audi a3 key 80-100-200-RS2 range, from the 1985 MC all the way up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 Du So, you may find some good ones in wrecking yards.
