Path of Exile Item Upgrading

In Path of Exile, item upgrading is among the best ways to improve your equipment without relying on big-ticket drops or trade. This article will teach you how to upgrade your items effectively.

Upgrades in equipment can add an additional bonus to the item's base stats. This bonus scales depending on the rarity and strength of the upgrade component.

Components

Upgrade components are the items that can make your weapons and armor more effective. They can be found by destroying enemies, buying them from karma sellers or finding them in the form of item-spheres. You can also salvage them from equipment that contains the components, or by utilizing salvage kits of high-end quality, such as Black Lion Salvage Kit and Ascended Salvage Tool. Contrary to other products upgrades aren't destroyed when they are removed from an item.

The primary function of upgrade components is to enable an item to be upgraded, however, they also serve other purposes. They can be used to boost the level or the amount of experience gained by upgrading equipment or weapons. They can also be made to provide extra bonuses. In addition to the multiplier of experience every item also has a maximum number of upgrades it can receive. The number of upgradeable items is determined by their upgradeable rank, and the kind of upgrade they are able to receive. For instance, the highest possible upgrade for a weapon is a tier 10 weapon. However, the most common upgrade for weapons is an tier 6 weapon as well as a tier 5 armor upgrade.

Sets

A set is a collection of items which share bonuses. Each item in the set can be upgraded at least once, and the upgrade will increase the guaranteed bonuses.
