Bedside Crib and Travel Cot

Bedside cribs are a cot with a bassinet style that can be attached to the bed's side. They often have one side that can be put down for easy reach, and some have an incline option that is ideal for reflux babies.

MFM test subject Georgina said that the crib was simple to put together, and the instructions were extremely simple. It was a quick build. It folds down to an extremely compact size and comes with a handy bag for transport.

Easy to assemble

They are small and simple to set up, meaning they can be placed close to your bed. They are also lighter, making them more transportable. Georgina, one of our MFM home test participants, praised the Maxi-Cosi Lora for being "super straightforward to put together, with clear instructions and easy zips." This crib can also be used as a travel cot, and comes with a convenient bag to carry it around traveling. It has multiple mesh windows to allow for airflow and the adjustable height ensures it will fit any mattress.

Some cribs for bedside use the option of a side panel that could be lowered, giving you an easy access to your baby bedside cot without having to step out of your bed. This is a great option for breastfeeding mums, or those who want to be close to their child all night long but do not want to risk co-sleeping (which is associated to a higher risk of SIDS).

The Next2me Magic, which was shortlisted for the Best Cot, Crib or Moses Basket at the 2021 Mother&baby bedside co sleeper Awards, is also slightly larger than the average, however it is still small and easy to put onto your bed. Georgina found it easy to put together, however she did feel the zips could have been better explained on the instruction sheet.

Easy to clean

Look for cribs with removable mattress covers which can be washed in the machine when looking at cribs for bed or travel cots. This will help keep it clean from leaky nappies, baby sick and spills. It's an excellent idea to choose one that is easily disassembled and partially dismantled, to allow you access to all the nooks and crannies to conduct a thorough cleaning and sanitising session.

This is important, as it's the best way to ensure that all germs and dirt have been cleared away. Check that the sides of the crib are secure to ensure that your baby doesn't slide off or become trapped.
