The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention, and will leave your floors clean. Its price is surprisingly low and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are great features.

Be sure to regularly inspect your robot's brushes for hair that is tangled and large debris, and wash them when required. Some models can also automatically empty their onboard dustbin into a larger bin in the base, which reduces the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've test. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the most powerful model) they employ smart mapping to produce precise floorplans that avoid obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also have the feature of Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our bare floor tests, and they're particularly adept in removing pet hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a good deal for those whose home or office has lots of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it while you're at work or going to school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be replaced with a wet one in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its smart cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has a self-emptying bin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover and mop hoover for carpets, but it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors that help it keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to ensure cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to other models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when in a carpeted room which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is perfect for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire house, finishing with the battery at 66 percent left. It also did a good job cleaning a range of floors and rooms that had different flooring types, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it stayed clear of fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming, a feature that hasn't been seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy models from the competitors. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the only robotic hoovers vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's still quite loud that could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you try to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as expensive as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and some additional cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also has an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the home based on how dirty the areas are.

For larger homes it's worth looking for models with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot vacuum cleaner best to clean a particular area of your home via the app or voice commands. A stairway mode is useful if you own a lot furniture. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be very beneficial.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might think from its price. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a reciprocating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping that collects data on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to set up a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app also grants access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and under furniture more easily. It also has a strong 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like adorable eyes. It is great at vacuuming, however it is more likely to be caught on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we've test. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
