3 Wheeler Buggies

A three-wheeler is ideal for tackling off-road terrain providing an easy ride for your baby. They are also easier to move and push than a four-wheel buggy, particularly those with fabric sling seats or modular seat units that are placed comfortably in the frame, delivering the most efficient geometry and weight distribution.

Stability

A three-wheeler has great stability, which is the reason it's an ideal option for off-road walking (especially with an all terrain or off-road style seat). These types of buggys typically have large front tires that are able to handle bumps, kerbs, and rough terrain. Some have a lockable wheel in the front to give you additional stability when driving on uneven terrain.

It is important to keep in mind that 3-wheel buggies have lower center of gravity than 4-wheeled versions and, therefore, are more likely to fall over. The most reliable 3-wheeled pushchairs are built with the perfect geometry to ensure that they remain stable in any condition. They should be able to turn at a whim and be easy to steer using one hand. They also come with the ability to rotate 360o on the front wheel that makes them ideal for navigating difficult terrain.

Find models with pneumatic tyres. These are designed to handle nonpaved tracks, and should be able to handle rocks, mud, gravel and other debris. A majority of all-terrain buggies come with a swivelling front wheel that can be locked to add stability when dealing with extremely rough terrain.

A 3 wheel buggies-wheel pram is also an excellent option for runners or for those who prefer to walk quickly and uphill, especially in the event that you're planning to connect a carrycot or car seat. The Roma Atlas is an excellent model. It features a flat-reclining seat with a 5-point harness, and plenty of storage space for all your equipment (plus the ability to extend 50+ of the sun hood). It's light compact and safe for use starting at birth. It can be used in conjunction with a car seat or a carrycot. It can also be used for light jogging but is not intended for serious runners.

Weight

If you're looking for a buggy to tackle difficult terrain, then you should pick one with large tires. They can handle grass, cobbles and dirt tracks, and provide an enjoyable ride for all passengers. They're also ideal for jogging because they're equipped with suspension and are easy to move up and down kerbs. The trade-off is that they're a bit heavy to push.

The most suitable 3 wheel buggy for rough terrain is the Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 (pictured above). This 3-wheeler has 16 rear wheels and an swivel wheel lockable to the front, so it's very manoeuvrable. It has air-filled tyres which require pumping regularly. It can accommodate children up until the age of three. MFM reviewer Kath says that her toddler was awed by the shape of the seat, and she was able to steer it easily with her 3 year old riding along.

The Baby Jogger Versa GT is another excellent option. It has an adjustable handlebar, a high-quality hood that offers 50+ UV protection as well as a high-quality hood. It's also easy to move up and down kerbs and fit in small car boots. It can also be used as a pram that comes with baby car seat for infants and toddlers.

Fabric slings are positioned within the frame and not on top as modular seats. This design delivers a lower centre of gravity and a perfect height, making it easier to push and lighter to pop the kerb (you cannot overestimate the amount of times you'll have to do that as new parents!)

Seating

There are many alternatives for seating options in 3 wheel stroller with car seat wheelers. For newborns it is possible to use the included carrycot (which MFM reviewer Alice says is a cozy and comfortable lie-flat bed that can be used both on and off the buggy) and older infants and toddlers can be seated in the world-facing or parent facing seat that is large and cushioned and has adjustable ventilation. It's worth noting that the seats aren't fully reclined however they can be adjusted to the lowest level which should still give your child plenty of headroom and space to move around.

A sling seat made of fabric is also available, which has the advantage of being set snugly inside the frame rather than sitting on top as an open-back seat. This gives a lower centre of gravity and perfect weight distribution. This makes it much easier and lighter to push, especially when you're on bumpy terrain or curbs and MFM reviewer Kath loved the way this kind of seat negotiated these challenges.

In addition to a big shopping basket, this type of buggy generally has pretty useful features such as an extended 50+ UV hood, an easy-to-use brake pedal and some games-changing visibility lights that come up from the handlebar and can be positioned in front of the occupants to increase their safety when they are tackling difficult terrain.

Alternatively, if you are looking for a single buggy that can adapt to your family's needs There's a brand new sport(tm) which is a world's first that can take a single newborn from day dot and then adjust to take 2 or even 3 after your children have grown and all within the footprint of a single buggy.

Storage

The 3-wheeled frame is much more sturdy and can be moved with just one hand. It's also ideal for difficult terrain. However, it means that the shopping basket doesn't hold as much as a 4-wheeler buggy.

A good quality ATP will come with a great suspension, pneumatic tyres and padding for the handle to ensure your ease. It will also be able to take a carrycot and car seat so you can use it from birth.

MFM's reviewers found that the cheap 3 wheel buggy-wheeler frames didn't fit through their home's doors or car boot. If you're concerned about space, be sure to check out the dimensions of the buggy once it is folded before purchasing.

It's worth considering an SUV with three wheels that can fit 2 (or even 3 wheel strollers!) This is the best option for your child's future and will save you money. The iCandy strawberry sport is among the best of these that can be used as a single from day dot and later converts to twin buggies when your baby begins walking.

Tyres

Air filled tyres are designed to give your child more comfort while riding by cushioning bumps and uneven surfaces. They are typically included on pushchairs such as the Phil and Ted's Sport, which MFM reviewer Kath said was "an exceptional ride for her toddler". She also said that the grippy tyres on it made it easy to tackle kerbs and cobbles.

These tyres are sometimes tricky to keep inflated and will need to be topped up frequently. They are also more susceptible to punctures than foam tyres so you'll need to ensure that you have repair kits, spare inner tube and pump in case you go you're out and about in your buggy.

PU tyres are typically found on pushchairs as they are less expensive than tyres filled with air, but they are just as durable. PU tire are easily identifiable by their matte finish and supple feel. They also slide well on uneven and tied surfaces.

It's usually possible to identify the difference between PU and air-filled tires by running your hands over each one. If it feels firm, then it's a rubber tyre, and if it slides then it's a PU. You can also confirm that your buggy is fitted with PU tyres by slipping the tyres on an even, clean surface - they'll be able to roll easily and fit snugly into their wheel hubs.

Foam tyres can handle the rough terrain that comes with high-performance buggies. The downside is that the foam may shrink and make your buggy appear less stable because it loses its springy quality. These tyres also make a lot of noise, as they make a lot noise when you turn and drive around town.
