However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a great deal particularly if your office or home has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also very quiet and you can use it while you're at work or at school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. If you're in need of it mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its smart cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot vacuum robotic hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning robot mop and vacuum.

This top-performing combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it also learns the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can modify the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones using the app that is well-designed. It has a battery life that is comparable to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when in a room with carpet, which helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also great for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete an entire house, finishing with the battery at 66 percent left. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds and cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy models of the competitors. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It features advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score 100% in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work, or in the evening when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit costly but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable, but it will cost you more and create more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner, similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, as well as washes and drys mop pads.

The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

If you own a larger home, it's worth choosing a model that has zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you inform the robot of which area of your house needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice control. A stair mode can be useful if you own a number of furniture. For families that are busy recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be extremely useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd expect from its price tag. It's a pro at vacuuming, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or create a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance. The app comes with a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. You can also set up a spot clean that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it is more likely to get stuck on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we've test. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
