The mops also employ an intelligent system to clean around the edges of walls and around furniture. The robot is able to effortlessly avoid obstacles like food bowls, toys and backpacks. However, it could get stuck or get caught up in smaller and more compact objects like shoelaces, USB cables, and pens.

We used this robot to clean and mop a variety of pile carpet tiles, FLOR carpet and hardwood floors in a large, open house floor layout. It was able to vacuum and mop the area of 90m2 in 170 minutes, with FREO Mind enabled. This is a bit more than average for Gen 4 robots.

The Scout RX3 impressed us in our tests on how well it cleaned baking powder from corners and baseboards. Its suction of 2,500 Pa was a little weaker than some other robots, but it moved quickly and was quiet. It didn't mop however, and its removable cleaning pads were difficult to attach and could not deal with dried-on dirt.

The app doesn't have advanced features, such as multiple cleaning modes or automated scheduling. It does work with Alexa however, its voice controls aren't very clear or responsive. It's also a bit flaky when it comes back to the charging station following an exercise. Other robots can follow a wall or trace the previous route, but the RX3 bumbles around until it quits.

We also experienced issues with the intelligent features of the device, such as its mapping feature and digital stay-out zones. While it did a good job of keeping away from our shoes and furniture legs but it could easily be caught by cables and socks and couldn't handle the tassels on carpets. That's the reason we didn't choose to include it on our Best Buy list. With a decent price tag and impressive performance it's a Scout RX3 is worth considering when you're looking for an alternative to traditional uprights.
