However, unlike the i7+ or other top-rated robots that we evaluated the i3+ does not have any obstacle-avoidance features which means it can be stuck on things like power cords or socks, and it may have trouble traversing transitions across surfaces like hardwood to rug.

iRobot recommends you clear out areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, which includes putting away any toys or clutter it might encounter. You should also keep the dustbin and filter clear to avoid becoming clogged. When the i3+ EVO’s internal bin is empty or the battery is not fully charged, it returns to the docking station and automatically empties the dirt into the station's dust bin. The Roomba I7+ is able to better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and it can control your robot through the app or via voice.

The i7+ is quicker and more maneuverable in our tests compared to the eufy RoboVac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from any surface including carpeting. The biggest benefit over the eufy, is its self-emptying dustbin that removes a major source of maintenance and reduces the cost of maintenance.

We were also awestruck by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning sessions and to move around the room, and even vacuum a specific space. Connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward through the iRobot Home app. We were able, once connected, to speak commands to the i7+ such as "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options for managing the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world full of vacuums that are cordless and feel like minivans or buses, this small Dyson model feels like a sports car. It's powerful enough to replace a traditional stand-up vacuum in the majority of homes, yet it is also small enough to fit on the bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense lithium-ion battery that produces continuous, non-fading power for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filtering system captures allergens, and then releases cleaner air into your home. The specialized head uses rigid nylon bristles that penetrate deep into carpets and collect large crumbs or fine dust. It comes with three suction modes to suit the task at hand. That's still enough run time to clean most of an average-sized house, but not quite long enough to cover every area (though an additional run-through often does the trick). That's not to say this model isn't a good choice: It's lighter and mobile than the older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming performance is significantly superior on carpets with a low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

One of the most well-known robot vacuums, the 694 is an entry-level model that's a good option for those who don't want to invest too much on a robot. It could pick up most types of debris in our testing and often went over the same area several times to give an efficient clean. Its flat front side helps to get into corners and along the edges of walls which is a nice feature.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt to stay clear of obstacles and navigate your home, but it lacks the mapping capability of more sophisticated models like our top picks such as the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. It is prone to getting stuck on phone cords or low furniture and often runs out of power before returning to its original location.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways over the Roomba 694 in that it has less parts that require regular cleaning, is outfitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtration system, incurs lower cost of recurring costs and is more sophisticated in its automation capabilities and can better navigate its own. It also has a larger dustbin and is charged faster.

The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba 694. It also has physical boundaries and can be controlled by the voice assistant on your smartphone. It is also more durable and has a more powerful motor, and works better on bare floors and carpets with low pile, while providing a greater variety of automation options.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
