Top Rated Robot Vacuums

A robot vacuum can keep your floors clean enough to reduce the frequency of hoovering manually. Select a vacuum with good navigation, can clean stairs and corners and has large bins that only needs to be emptied periodically.

There are models that mop and charge themselves, which is a feature that is essential for families with children or pets. The top performers in our tests also have good obstacle avoidance.

1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO is identical to its sibling, the i3 EVO. They differ only in that the i3+ comes with self-emptying capabilities. That makes the i3+ a good choice for people who want an entirely automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but don't mind manually emptying their robot's dustbin as it gets full.

Both robots do well picking up surface debris off carpets and hard floors and they're excellent in getting around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart maps of your home to assist the i3+ to navigate and clean efficiently. The i3+ does not have the same obstacle avoidance capabilities as the i7+ or any other top-rated robots we have tested. It could be stuck on power cords and socks and have difficulty navigating between different surfaces like rug and hardwood.

iRobot recommends you clear out areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, which includes clearing out any toys or clutter it may encounter. It's also a good idea to keep the dust bin and filter clean so they don't become clogged with dirt. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is empty or the battery is depleted, it returns to the docking station, and it automatically empties the dirt into the station's dust bin. It then continues cleaning where it began. Battery life is about an hour and a half of continuous use. It takes three hours to fully charge.

2. Roomba from iRobot

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line and comes with all the latest features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. the most crucial feature of all -- it has self-emptying bins that eliminate one of the most important sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ is able to map rooms more efficiently with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning jobs, and you can direct your robot using the app or via voice.

The i7+ is more efficient and more maneuverable in our tests compared to the eufy RoboVac G30. It also picked up large pet hair pieces from all surfaces, including carpeting. The biggest advantage over the Eufy is the self-emptying bin which eliminates the main sources of maintenance and reduces the cost of maintenance.

We were also awestruck by the i7+’s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot on how to begin or stop cleaning sessions as well as move around the room and even vacuum a specific area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. After being connected, to speak commands to the i7+, for example "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world of vacuums with cords that are like minivans and buses, this tiny Dyson model is a sports car. The V10 is powered with a 7-cell energy-dense Lithium-ion battery that can provide power without fading for 60 minutes. Its cleaning head is specially designed and drives stiff nylon bristles deep into carpet to suck up large crumbs and fine dust. It has three suction modes to meet the task at hand. It quickly converts from floor vac to handheld vacuum, and then back to floor.

This model also has a dock that charges to 100% in around 3.5 hours and offers an easy access to two attachments and the wand clip. This is a significant improvement over the older Dysons, which require a lengthy charge and are a pain to store.

The biggest issue with the V10 is its limited run time. As CR's tests show, its advertising claims of up to 60 minutes are misleading. This is an average, not an exceptional, run time for a battery-powered cordless vac. This is enough time to clean the average-sized home however, it's not enough time to reach every spot. (A second time usually works). That's not to say this model doesn't have its advantages It's lighter and more maneuverable than older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming efficiency is better on carpets with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

One of iRobot's most adored robot vacuums, the 694 is an affordable model that's a great option for those who don't want to spend too much on a robot. It could pick up the majority of types of debris in our tests and would often go over the same area many times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front design allows it to reach the corners and edges of walls.

Its intelligent vacuum cleaner navigation system makes use of iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate your home, but it's not equipped with the ability to map that comes with more sophisticated models like our top choices such as the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. It can get stuck on phone cords or furniture and will often run out of power before returning to its base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in most respects because it has fewer components that need regular cleaning and is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, incurs lower costs for recurring maintenance, has more advanced automation capabilities and is more efficient in maneuvering itself. It also has a larger dustbin and is charged faster.

The sleek RoboVac X8 has a superior battery longevity than the Roomba 694. It also has physical boundaries strips that can be controlled with your smartphone's voice assistance. It is also more durable and has a more powerful motor, and works better on bare floors and carpets with low pile, while providing a wider array of features for automation.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a well-known brand in home electronics. It's not surprising, then, that they are also among the top manufacturers of robot vacuums and mop. Jet Bot AI+ has a cutting-edge onboard technology for navigation and obstacle avoidance.

The app provides a range of options for customizing your robotic cleaner. These include virtual barriers, mopping levels and behavior customizations docking frequency settings, and much more. The app is easy to use and understand, just like other Samsung devices.

In our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and removed 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). However, it didn't do particularly well at avoiding taller objects like cords and socks which was a disappointment. It's also more expensive than other models we've tested, and this could be a problem for some shoppers.
