Robots that vacuum and mop offer the convenience of removing dry debris (dust dirt) and wet messes (spills, staining) in one time without the need to change devices. They can also reduce space when compared to two separate units, particularly in smaller living spaces.

A good robot vacuum combination bot should have impressive navigation and obstacles avoidance. Look for models that automatically empty their bins and fill up their water tank, and wash their mopping pads from a dedicated dock.

The docking station comes with a handy LCD screen that indicates when maintenance is needed, such as emptying debris and washing the water tank that is dirty. It also mixes detergent into the water tank automatically by using a 600ml eufy solution.

Both the S1 Pro vacuum and mop come with plenty of running time, with the mop able to operate for up to 184 minutes in quiet mode, and the vacuum can last for 136 minutes in standard mode before having to recharge or return to the base to replenish. You can also view the full cleaning details in the app, which is clearly laid out and easy to understand, though we would have liked to be able to differentiate between a best automatic vacuum cleaner only or mop clean, when looking at a cleaned area in the history of cleaning.

2. Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra, the latest version of Roborock's flagship robot vacuum and mop is the newest version. Unlike last year's model, this one features two agitators in its mopping pad, which significantly enhances its carpet cleaning abilities. The S8 Pro Ultra also has improved suction power, allowing it to remove fine hairs and other debris that other robotic cleaners may be unable to pick up.

This Roborock model, like the other two models I tested it has infrared and a reactive 3D obstacle avoidance technology that helps it avoid obstacles such as walls, furniture and other obstacles. The S8 Pro Ultra goes one step further and incorporates a dual-camera that can identify objects, determining if they are walls or other surfaces. It is able to change its course automatically and clean the objects, without missing a step.

It's the most expensive of the three models I've examined, but it's also feature-packed. Its sleek, angular style is eye-catching and it only has three physical buttons that include the power button that also resumes cleaning; a mop-only button that doubles as a child lock; and a home button to send the robot back to its dock. The hinged lid can be lifted to reveal the 350ml dust bin as well as a 200ml water tank. The water tank is automatically filled and the bin fills up automatically.

The only downside I found in this model was the VibraRise mop pads mount isn't removable. You can replace the mopping cloth if required, but it's a challenge to remove the mount for manual washing. I've found any plush carpet that the robot touches will come into contact with the rough Velcro like fastener system on the mounts, which could cause abrasions.

The S8 Pro Ultra has a variety of smart features, including support for Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Siri. You can set up and manage these through the Roborock app which is also the home of its maps and advanced mopping settings. The app allows you to schedule cleanings, monitor battery life and component maintenance. However, you'll have to go through a few hurdles to enable voice control with this model which is unfortunate considering how well it performs otherwise.

3. Dreame X40

The app is simple to use and understand, and the X40 is equipped with many clever features that are easy to configure. Users can program the X40 to clean at specific times, alter suction power and mode, see floor plans and maps, and manage mopping settings. The X40 will also track its progress and notify you when it's finished.

The X40 is easy to maintain and has many features that make it a great choice for busy families. 4. L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra robot is one of the most expensive models on the market. It does have many features that make it stand out. This is higher than Roborock S8 Pro Ultra and Ecovacs Deebots T20 Omni. It can also clean pet hair, dirt particles and remove spills and soiled spots.

The mops are cleaned and dried in the base station each time they are used. This is beneficial because it prevents mould and unpleasant odours that can build up in the storage. It also makes the mop system more efficient. This is a system we've yet to see on other robot vacuums and mop models and could be a useful method of keeping your home cleaner for longer.
