Evolution Korea

Up until recently, the Korean scientific community was hesitant about working with creationists due to the fear of giving the movement more credence. Silence is no longer an option.

What is Evolution?

Evolution is a scientific theory that explains the evolution of genetic characteristics of living organisms over time. These changes could over generations lead to the emergence of new species. Natural selection is the predominant theory of evolution. It describes how individuals who have advantages can reproduce faster and longer than those with disadvantageous ones. Evolutionary biologists define evolution more recently as a process by which living things develop characteristics to increase their chances of living or producing offspring. Over time, this genetic variability can lead to the emergence of entirely new physical or biological functions in the same population. Natural selection is the mechanism that triggers the majority of evolutionary changes. However non-genetic changes like the growth in muscle mass due to diet or exercise cannot be considered examples of evolution since they are not inherited by the next generation.

Despite the fact that evolution has stood the tests of time and thousands of scientific tests, creationists have seized on the idea that the theory is controversial and argue that it shouldn't be taught in school. In South Korea, creationists won a few victories over evolution in textbooks for high school. This includes the removal of all references to the evolutionary roots of humans as well as Archaeopteryx - a feathered dinosaur that is believed to be the bird's ancestor.

In fact many religious people have found ways to reconcile their beliefs with evolutionary theory. Some Christians for instance believe that God created everything through evolution and that humans have a common ancestry to other animals.

It is essential that science educators advocate for the teaching of evolution. In some countries, the anti-evolution movement has been rising. In the United States some states have taken steps to limit teaching of evolution. In South Korea, a group known as the Society for Textbook Revise, an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research (KAC) is a campaign for textbooks that cover the evolution of horses and their Avian ancestor Archaeopteryx.

It is crucial to keep in mind that the evidence in support of evolution is overwhelming. The evidence for evolution comes from many sources, such as fossils, genetics and the behavior of living creatures. Other scientists independently confirm the evidence.

The majority of scientists believe in the theory of evolution. The reasons for this support vary. Scientists study evolution to make practical discoveries, such as developing medications, while others are motivated by a desire to improve animal and plant species, typically to benefit humans. Some are simply curious, while still others have a deep faith in God and want to understand how the universe functions.

What is Creationism?

Creationists believe that God created everything in the universe. They also believe that the Bible is God's word and should be interpreted in a literal manner. Although Creationists may not all be Christian however, many are. Creationists typically fall into one of two categories: Young Earth creationists (YEC) and old earth creationists (OEC).

The most well-known kind of creationist is called the YEC. They believe that God created the universe in exactly the way that is described in the Bible. They believe that the biblical account of the first six days of creation was literal and that the universe and life on Earth were only created recently.

OECs may be less popular however their beliefs are just as intense like the YECs. OECs believe that the universe as well as Earth are billions-of-years old and believe that evolution is a myth.

Both forms of creationism deny that scientific theories such as natural selection and abiogenesis could explain the origins of life on Earth. They claim that evolution is not possible because it would require an extraordinary event, and that the pioneers of modern science eschewed miracles for fear of losing credibility.

Some creationists accept naturalistic evolution as well as special creation. They refer to their belief as "theistic evolution." This is sometimes also referred to as "continuous creationism" or "evolution from created kinds." In this belief system, God creates the original species and then allows them to evolve over time. Eventually these evolutionary changes will result in new species like the original ones.

Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the entire universe in one event known as the Great Flood. They believe that the original species were all created at the same time, and that they grew slowly afterward. They reject the concept of abiogenesis and assert that self-replicating living cannot come from non-living matter.

In general, creationists are against teaching of evolution in schools. This position is supported by a variety of professional organizations which include the National Science Teachers Association, the Association for Science Teacher Education, the American Anthropological Association, and the Geological Society of America. Certain scientists and educational institutions are, however, more flexible and allow both evolution and creationism to be incorporated into their curriculum.

What is Creationism?

When people think of the concept of creationism, they often think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolution group. The publishers of high school textbooks announced last week that they would remove references to evolution in their books. The Society for Textbook Revise, an independent organization that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for 바카라 에볼루션 (Www.bitsdujour.Com) Creation Research (KACCR), has led this campaign. STR has secured its first victory by taking away examples of the evolution of the horse as well as an avian ancestor, the Archeopteryx from textbooks. STR claims that it has the support of around 4,000 families and individuals. Its aim is to root out what it regards as the "atheist materialism" that creates a bleak worldview for students. The reasons for this are not clear however, they could be related to religion and the absence of full-time creation scientists in the country.

The KACR accomplished a number of things through its seminars and lectures in the past. It publishes a bimonthly journal called Creation and an ebook. One of them is a textbook on the natural sciences, with an orthodox creationist perspective, which attracted the attention of college communities. In 1991, a professor, along with a minister began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught today.

On August 6-7 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. It was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon.
